Antihypertensive medication in frail older adults: A narrative review through a deprescribing lens

The management of hypertension in frail older adults remains controversial, as these patients are underrepresented clinical trials and practice guidelines. Overtreatment may cause harm while undertreatment lead to greater risk cardiovascular events. Our research aims examine this controversy provide guidance regarding deprescribing decisions adults. Current evidence suggests that there be minimal benefit significant antihypertensive medication the adult population. A minority guidelines sufficient recommendations for adults, limited tools available guide decision-making. Randomized controlled well-designed observational studies needed confirm benefit-to-harm relationship Decision comprehensively address would advantageous help clinicians with Clinicians should engage shared decision-making patient family ensure best meet needs all involved.
